Below are photographs from Embodied Creative Practices: A Calligraphy and Meditation SAC Masterclass with Han Dai-Yu, held during the CAA Annual Conference. I am so proud of our Services to Artists Committee (SAC) team for leading such thoughtful and important programming.
Han’s masterclass explored the intersection of calligraphy, meditation, and embodied creative practice. Participants were guided through mindful drawing and writing exercises using simple and traditional materials.
The session incorporated breathing and meditative techniques designed to heighten awareness of gesture, rhythm, and mark-making as both a visual and internal process. Participants were encouraged to observe how the hand moves, how breath influences line, and how calligraphic principles can inspire contemporary meditative art practices.
Through quiet drawing rituals, attendees reflected on mark-making as a sensory and contemplative experience, engaging the body as an instrument of seeing and expression.
